To address the systemic challenges facing comprehensive addiction treatment, NACATS is committed to advocating for the following solutions in collaboration with policymakers, payers, and other stakeholders:

Establish Consistent, Rational Reimbursement Models

Work with payers to implement standardized reimbursement methodologies, such as bundled payments, case rates, or dedicated billing codes
Ensure sufficient reimbursement levels for providers to deliver high-quality, comprehensive care and remain financially viable

Promote Standardized, Evidence-Informed Service Packages

Encourage adoption of evidence-based service models that integrate medication, treatment, and social support services as defined by industry standards like ASAM
Advocate for policies and regulations that facilitate patient access to the full continuum of addiction care based on individualized clinical needs

Develop and Share Quality and Performance Metrics

Collaborate with stakeholders to establish a core set of standardized metrics for evaluating the quality and effectiveness of addiction treatment
Champion greater transparency through self-publishing patient outcomes and provider performance metrics to drive accountability and improvement
Partner with researchers to build the evidence base for comprehensive addiction treatment and inform refinement of best practices
